A Monarch butterfly with a broken wing got a second chance to fly after undergoing wing transplant surgery in New York.
Two workers from the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown performed the operation with just scissors, glue, cornstarch and replacement wings from dead butterflies.
The procedure takes about five minutes, and the butterfly immediately flaps its wings as soon as the operation is finished.
According to officials, butterflies do not feel pain because their wings do not have nerves or blood flow.
