Patrick Kluivert
explained the moment that made him decide not to play Calvin Verdonk in the Indonesia vs Saudi Arabia national team match in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. He also did not dare to guarantee that Verdonk would be able to play against Iraq.
Verdonk did not play in the Indonesia vs Saudi Arabia match at the King Abdullah Stadium, Jeddah, Thursday (9/10) early morning WIB.The left-back who plays for French club Lille was even included in the squad chosen by Kluivert for the match against Saudi Arabia.
Kluivert stated that Verdonk had arrived with an injury.Verdonk’s condition continued to be monitored until finally Kluivert decided not to play Verdonk after communicating with the doctor.

“Calvin Verdonk, he came here with a minor injury to his thigh. The Lille doctor and the Indonesian national team doctor have communicated well since then.”
“Unfortunately, he couldn’t play in this match because he has a [muscle] problem in his thigh,” Kluivert said in the post-match press conference.
After missing the match against Saudi Arabia, Kluivert also did not dare to guarantee Verdonk’s presence in the match against Iraq in Jeddah, Saturday (11/10) evening local time.The reason is, the match against Iraq is only three days after the duel against Saudi Arabia.
“I hope his injury recovery goes well so he can play against Iraq.”
“I hope that can happen, but we have to see developments from day to day regarding the condition of the injury and evaluate it. Let’s hope so, because in three days we will face another final again,” said Kluivert.
Verdonk did not play for Lille in the last Ligue 1 match before the international break.The last time Verdonk played was when competing in the Europa League against AS Roma last week.
