“A peacekeeper suffered minor injuries and is receiving medical assistance,” read a statement as quoted by Al Jazeera.
As reported by AFP, Israel acknowledged the incident. They said they had conducted a review and strengthened safety standards.
This incident is the third incident in the last month.
In September, UNIFIL reported an Israeli drone dropped four grenades near peacekeeping forces.
At the time, Israel insisted there was “no deliberate fire” directed at UNIFIL troops.
Then in early October, Israeli drones again dropped several grenades near their troops. At that time the troops were guarding the safety of workers who were cleaning up debris from the war with Hezbollah.
UNIFIL also considers the incident on Saturday (11/10) to be “another serious violation of resolution 1701 and involves disregard for the safety of peacekeeping troops”.
UN Security Council Resolution 1701 ended the conflict in 2006 between Israel and Hezbollah. This document was also the basis for the November ceasefire.
“We again call on (the Israeli army) to stop attacks on or near peacekeeping forces, which are working to re-establish the stability that Israel and Lebanon have promised,” UNIFIL said.
