This statement was made by Trump several hours after he announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to start a ceasefire in Gaza on Wednesday (8/10) local time.
Under Trump’s proposed ceasefire, Hamas would release all hostages, while Israel would withdraw its troops to the agreed lines.Trump signaled the deal could impact the entire region, even including contributions from Iran.
“This is more than just Gaza. This is peace in the Middle East. Iran will really be part of the overall peace situation,” said Trump, quoted by AFP.
“The world has come together to reach this agreement. It is very good for Israel, very good for Muslims, very good for Arab countries, and very good for this country,” he added.
Trump has long signaled his ambition that the Gaza region be rebuilt into a thriving hub.He also mentioned several times that the US and countries in the region would be involved in the reconstruction of Gaasa.
“Gaza will be reconstructed and other countries in the region will help, because they have enormous wealth, and they want to see that happen. And we will be involved in helping to make it happen successfully and keeping the peace,” Trump said.
At the end of last September, the White House released 20 points in Trump’s Gaza ceasefire proposal. The proposal was put forward during Trump’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
Several points highlighted in the proposal include making Gaza a terror-free zone, sending humanitarian aid, Gaza will be governed under a technocratic and apolitical interim transitional government, the creation of a special economic zone, and the deployment of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) as a “long-term internal security solution” in Gaza.
