will be an official member of the Southeast Asian Association (ASEAN) in the high level of the block

Timor Foreign Minister Leste Bendito Dos Santos said this was during a speech in a general debate session at the United Nations General Assembly (UN) session on Monday (29/9).

“After taking a path that is committed to fulfilling all the feasibility criteria, on October 26, it will become a full member of the Southeast Asian Nations Association, another milestone in the journey of our nation’s development,” Bendito said.
He then said, “This is a very important moment for national economic development, regional integration, and international recognition, and one of the moments that we are very proud of.”
Before the general assembly hearing, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also briefly made a similar statement.
Anwar said that Timor Leste’s accession to ASEAN would provide enormous benefits for the region.
“We will certainly hold a big celebration for your joining your [Timor Leste] to ASEAN in October 2025,” Anwar said when meeting Timor President Jose Ramos Horta on September 23, quoted

Timor Leste will be the 11th member of the Southeast Asian block.The country has gone through a long process of up to 14 years to become a member of ASEAN.
