Director General of Domestic Trade Ministry of Trade Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan stressed that the rice stock remains safe.Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) was more careful.
“Now Aprindo members are more careful. What they did were when buying rice, then immediately displayed at their outlets,” he said after the National Coordination Meeting of the Cooperatives and MSMEs in Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Wednesday (8/20).
“Because there are several findings (mixed premium rice), Aprindo is more careful in measuring the rice. Then, this is the fragments (rice fracture). Well, this is what makes the length of the rice coming out of their warehouse to the showroom in each outlet,” explained Iqbal.
The Minister of Trade Budi Santoso said the availability of rice in Indonesia was very sufficient, even a surplus.Similarly, the stocks that are pocketed by the retailers.
The Director General of Domestic Trade Iqbal emphasized that retail entrepreneurs, especially those who are members of Aprindo, only require time for internal verification.

The racket of the previous premium rice was revealed by the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman.He said there were around 212 brands involved, which were finally investigated directly by the Indonesian Police.
Amran said a number of samples showed a piece of rice and even reached 59 percent.In fact, premium rice fractures are a maximum of 15 percent.
He said the practice made the price of rice in the market soaring unnaturally.Rice that should be sold for Rp 12 thousand per kilogram is actually priced at Rp17 thousand per kilogram because it is labeled premium.
