Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Anom Caribbeannto, emphasized that the operation on Tuesday was part of law enforcement efforts to save the environment from damage caused by illegal mining activities.
“The Riau Regional Police strongly condemn the anarchist actions and destruction of state facilities. These actions are criminal acts and will be processed according to applicable law,” he said in Pekanbaru, Wednesday (8/10).
Meanwhile, Kuansing Police Chief AKBP Raden Ricky Pratidiningrat explained that initially a joint team from Kuansing Police and the local government carried out sweeping and dismantling of PETI rafts in the Cerenti area.
He said that the PETI rafts had been disturbing the public for a long time.
“We carried out this control because PETI’s activities in Cerenti have seriously damaged the environment. We have previously issued an appeal to the public to stop these activities,” he said.
However, he continued, a number of residents refused and blocked the officers.
In this incident, the crowd threw stones at the official vehicle used by the Police Chief and his entourage, causing significant damage.

Ricky emphasized that his party would follow up on the obstruction and vandalism cases, and continue operations to eradicate PETI in the Kuansing area.
“Our priority is that this problem does not continue. However, regarding the parties involved and the victims, we will take firm action. No one should destroy nature and pollute the environment,” he stressed.
