The Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia repatriated the bodies of Indonesian citizens who died in Phnom Penh,

The body of Indonesian citizens on behalf of Nazwa Aliya (NA) was dispatched from Phnom Penh on Saturday (30/8) local time.
Based on an official statement from the hospital and the Cambodian police, the Indonesian citizen from Deli Serdang, North Sumatra died on August 12, 2024 at Siem Refer Referral Hospital due to toxic hepatitis (liver failure) due to an overdose of paracetamol.
“Na has been in Siem Reap since May 30, 2025 and lives with old acquaintances from the family concerned. Na visited Cambodia using a tourist visa,” the press statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
“The person concerned does not work while in Cambodia. There is no indication that NA is a victim of TPPO (acts of trafficking in people),” the statement continued.
The Indonesian Embassy then stated that Na admitted that he had left Indonesia for his own desire because of the family problem when contacted by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 31, 2025.
“He also reported that he was free to move and communicate. When offered to mediate with his family, NA refused and asked the government to respect his choice as an adult who traveled legally,” explained the Indonesian Embassy.
“On August 12, 2025 the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited Na’s house in Deli Serdang to deliver the sorrow and explain the steps for handling. Through diplomatic paths, the Indonesian Embassy has also asked the local authority to do the deepening of the events experienced by Na.”
Na’s body will arrive at Kuala Namu Airport on Sunday (8/31) WIB and then submitted by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the family.
