Historical House belonging to the Maestro Painter

which is located in Cikini, Central Jakarta, will soon undergo restoration.Although it has been standing firmly for 1.5 centuries, this cultural heritage building shows some damage that needs to be repaired immediately.

, who visited the location to see firsthand the condition of the house, which is currently in the preparation stage of restoration by the PGI Cikini Health Foundation.On the terrace, a safety strap and a supporting iron frame have been installed.
According to the conservation architect, Arya Abieta, this support was installed because of a crack in one of the wooden columns.
“Incidentally yesterday we found a point on the south side, there was a cracked part because this was a construction of wooden blocks. I asked immediately to be supported,” explained Arya, Wednesday (8/20).
He added, the installation of the supporting pole also aims to anticipate the vibrations of the development project around the location.
Building conditions and damage found
In addition to cracks in the column, some parts of the front wall (facades) are also damaged, ranging from fine cracks to deep cracks.Wall paint looks faded and the color is fading, even though the terrace floor is still in full condition.
This house has many windows and doors.Arya explained that the core part of this house was a large hall or hall in the middle surrounded by eight rooms.
The back of the house, which was built after Raden Saleh sold it, looked more well maintained and was still used for several foundation activities.The original wooden door made by Raden Saleh is also still sturdy.
On the second floor, the condition of the building is more alarming.The floor made of teak can only be accessed through one stairs.Minimal lighting and stuffy air make the atmosphere feel different.
Some parts of the wooden floor have been damaged, but the wood frame is still intact and safe from termites.Most of the ceiling in the second floor rooms were also damaged by leaks.
Commitment to Restoration and Conservation Challenges
Arya Abieta together with the Conservation Team and the PGI Cikini Health Foundation stated that this restoration must be carried out immediately.This project has full support from the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta.
“The challenge (restoration) is big. That is, this is the only work of Raden Saleh and I do not have the machete, there is no. If this is the work of artists, everything is unique,” said Arya.
He explained, the main challenge was building materials that were old.His team will strengthen the building structure to match modern safety standards.
With its status as a cultural heritage building, this restoration is expected to restore the glory of Raden Saleh’s house while preserving the historical traces of one of the nation’s largest artists.
