“We have taken DNA samples from 9 bodies. Then we have also taken samples from the families of the victims as many as 57 pairs of victims’ parents,” Naf’an said at the Emergency Post, Sidaorjom Saturday (4/10).
He explained that the identification process refers to DVI international standards, which are divided into primary and secondary methods. The primary method includes matching fingerprints, teeth, and DNA.If this method fails, the secondary match is carried out with medical data and the victim’s personal property.
Naf’an said that currently 9 DNA bodies of victims and 57 samples of victims’ families have been flown to Jakarta for the process of matching.
“We have already sampled DNA 9 bodies in Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya. And a comparison sample from parents this morning has been flown to Jakarta,” he explained.
However, the results of DNA identification cannot be obtained quickly because Indonesia only has one DNA laboratory in Cipinang, Jakarta.
“According to the SOP the results 2-3 weeks depending on the level of difficulty also extracts rather than the sample depending on also whether there are other burdens that are examined because the Indonesian National Police Pusdok only has one DNA lab, Cipinang,” said Naf’an.
In addition to the limited facilities, there are other obstacles. The majority of victims are children who do not have KTP or official fingerprint records. As a result, the team had difficulty finding identity comparison.
“The level of difficulty is that the average has not been KTP. So if as a comparison the victim is trying to ask whether it is report card, whether it is a diploma.
But there is also a level of difficulty. Some of the things we received were, because the ink was too thick could not be clearly and the Inafis team was also difficult, “he added.
The condition of the bodies that had long been buried in ruins also made the situation worse. The decay process makes fingerprints difficult to take in full.
“In addition, the victim has also occurred decay. The level of difficulty of being carried off to take the fingerprints to be shared into difficulties. So it is roughly so,” added Naf’an.
It is known, until Friday (3/10) night, 118 victims found.Consisting of 104 in a survivor, 14 died. While there are no found 49.
