, Vera Itabiliana Hadiwidjoyo, expressed her concern regarding the negative impact of online game games on children, especially Roblox which was later increasingly popular among them.
According to Vera, games with violent content have the potential to reduce children’s sensitivity to violence in real life.
“If they often play games that smell of violence, the impact is desensitization of violence. Their sensitivity is decreasing. Seeing violence becomes common,” Vera said in a joint interview

He added, not a few cases of violence involving children, both as perpetrators and victims who began with consumption of digital content that was not in accordance with age.Therefore, he stressed the importance of parents monitoring what children were watched and played.

Even so, Vera stressed that Roblox and other online games did not fully have a negative impact, as long as it was played according to the rules.Games like Roblox can benefit if used within reasonable limits and with parental supervision.
“If the duration, the contents of the game, and with whom they play are arranged, the positive benefits can be more. But if the child is released just like that, that’s where the dangers,” he explained.
Vera suggested that children only play games that fit their age.In the Roblox case, the user’s age rating is eight years and over.However, the age limit is considered insufficient because Roblox is like a social media platform, so interaction with foreigners remains risky.
“The most dangerous thing is if children play without the limit of duration and not monitored who is invited to interaction. Because Roblox is not just a game, but also a social platform,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of the discipline of parents in accompanying children to play games.Ideally, children only play with friends who are known, such as school friends, and do not open space for interaction with foreigners online.
Regarding the prohibition of games, Vera assessed that restrictions would be more effective if carried out comprehensively, both by parents and through government regulations.
“If it is already an emergency and many children become victims, the government should intervene to limit, even forbid certain games,” Vera said.
