“When I spoke with Mr. Rafil before accepting this offer, he explained that this club’s project was to improve the team’s position and promote young players. That was something that was very interesting to me,” said Trucha, Tuesday (28/10).
The coach from the Czech Republic believes that PSM Makassar has great potential because it has one of the best academies in Indonesia and admits that he is enthusiastic about working with young players who are considered the future of the club.
“I like working with young players. One example is Patrik Schick, when he was 19 years old he was not accepted at Sparta Prague, but after a year working with [Bohemians 1905], he received an offer to Serie A [Sampdoria]. So I believe, young players can develop with the right guidance,” he explained.
Schick went viral at Euro 2020 with a goal from a distance of 45.44 meters. He is recorded as the longest goal scorer at the Euros.
Trucha also highlighted the spirit and character of the people of South Sulawesi who are known as warriors and wanted the PSM players to emulate this spirit when defending the team nicknamed Juku Eja on the field.
“We are in the land of warriors. I want the players to know which region they represent and understand the history of this club. I will remind them to have a warrior spirit every time they play,” said Trucha.

Even though he admits that there are still limitations, especially because the team does not play in Makassar and has to be based temporarily in Parepare, Trucha is optimistic that with the hard work of all team elements, PSM can compete again at the top level.

“I see the people at this club working hard to create better conditions. I believe, with positive energy and shared enthusiasm, we can see changes for the better,” said Trucha.
From a tactical perspective, Trucha emphasized that he does not like a passive playing style and wants to appear active, aggressive and dominate the game.
“I don’t like waiting. I want this team to be active and control the ball. The more we control the ball, the more difficult it is for the opponent to create opportunities. We have to react quickly to win the ball back when we lose it, and create lots of scoring opportunities,” he said.
Trucha emphasized that hard work in training sessions will be the basis for returning PSM to glory on the field.
“We will work hard in training so that everything we plan can be seen in the match,” he concluded.
Tomas Trucha has a number of experiences coaching Southeast Asian clubs, especially in Malaysia. From 2020 to 2023, Trucha coached Penang and Kelantan United in the Malaysian League.Trucha last coached at AFC Leopards, a Kenyan club.
