Be aware that the material is Ignorant
Pandji also had a dialogue with the Secretary General of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) Rukka Sombolinggi and received enlightenment about the beauty of Toraja culture.
After the dialogue, Pandji admitted that the material in his joke about Toraja was wrong.
“From that conversation, I realized that the joke I made was indeed ignorant,” he said.
Make it a lesson
Pandji made this incident a lesson in his life.He promised that in the future he would be a better, more sensitive and caring comic.
He said that currently there are two legal processes underway: the state legal process, due to reports to the police and the customary legal process.
Based on discussions with Rukka, traditional settlements can only be carried out in Toraja.
Pandji said Rukka was willing to be a facilitator for his meeting with representatives from 32 Toraja traditional regions.
He plans to take that step. However, if time is not possible, Pandji stated that he would respect and undergo the applicable state legal process.
Comics raise cultural values
At the same time, Pandji hopes that this incident will not make comics stop promoting values and culture in their work.
He does not agree with the opinion that comedians cannot discuss SARA issues.
Pandji said that Indonesia is a country with extraordinary diversity, starting from ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup.
“The important thing is not to stop talking about SARA, but how to talk about it without demeaning or badmouthing it,” he said.
He also encouraged comics to continue telling stories about the nation’s customs and traditions in a better, wiser and more respectful way.
Pandji was reported to the police
The Toraja Youth Alliance reported Pandji to the police after allegedly insulting Toraja tribal customs.
“We Torajan youth officially reported this alleged criminal act to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Headquarters,” said Prilki Prakasa Randan in a release, Monday (3/11).
According to Prilki, the comedy material conveyed by Pandji in videos spread on social media contains elements of cultural racism and discrimination based on ethnicity and culture.
“Pandji Pragiwaksono made the traditional Rambu Solo ritual of the Toraja people into fun material in his comedy and invited the audience (participants) to laugh at the Rambu Solo ritual of the Toraja tribe,” he said.
At an event, Pandji Pragiwaksono said that in Toraja, if a family member dies, they wear a very expensive party. Many Torajan people fell into poverty because they held funerals. Finally the body was left just like that.
“This statement is not only wrong and misleading, but also hurts the self-esteem and honor of Toraja customs which have been passed down from generation to generation as part of Indonesian civilization. The Rambu Solo custom is a sacred traditional ritual in the belief system, social values and spiritual expression that has been passed down from our ancestors from generation to generation,” he explained.
Prilki considers Pandji Pragiwaksono’s statement to be a form of insult and harassment to the Toraja tribe’s customs and culture, so that it has the potential to be criminal in accordance with Article 156, Article 157 of the Criminal Code.
“Likewise in Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning ITE, Article 28 paragraph (2)
juncto
“Article 45A paragraph (2), as amended by Law No. 19 of 2016,” he said.
On this basis, said Prilki, the Toraja Youth Alliance reported comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono to the police.
“We urge the police to immediately take firm action against alleged insults and harassment of our cultural customs, the Torajan people, which contain elements of cultural racism and discrimination based on ethnicity and culture in accordance with our guidelines as a nation and a legal state,” he said.
