Three flights
Japan Airlines
(Jal) from Hawaii, United States to Japan experienced a delay, two of them for about 18 hours.
The delay was that after a Japan Airlines pilot was found consuming alcohol.This is the latest scandal that befell the Japanese airline.
According to the airline’s statement, the Pilot captain who was scheduled to fly an aircraft from Honolulu to the Chubu Centrair International Airport in Central Japan, on Thursday (8/28) expressed illness.

, the pilot then admitted that he had been drinking alcohol the day before while he was in a hotel.
Although Jal managed to find a substitute pilot, the flight, as well as two other flights to the Haneda Airport in Tokyo, experienced a delay.This incident in total impact around 630 passengers.
On Wednesday (3/9), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism Japan came to the Japan Airlines head office in Tokyo to conduct an investigation.
This latest incident occurred after Jal received a business improvement order in December 2024, following alcohol -related problems involving his employees.
In April last year, a captain Jal received a warning from the local police because of disturbing behavior while drunk at his hotel in the United States.
Then, in December 2024, two pilots scheduled to fly from Melbourne, Australia, to Japan failed in the pre-flying alcohol test, which then postponed the departure of the aircraft.
In January this year, Jal handed over the process to the Ministry of Transportation to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents, including making a list of employees who were believed to have an excessive drinking history to monitor their behavior.
Jal apologized on Wednesday (3/9) for other alcohol-related incidents involving his staff, even when the company had taken steps to eradicate the problem.”We will thoroughly implement these steps,” Jal’s statement said.
