Peruvian Presidential Candidate Rafael Belaunde Injured in Armed Attack in Lima

, Rafael Belaunde (50), managed to escape fatal injuries in an armed attack on the vehicle he was traveling in in the town of Cerro Azul, Tuesday (2/12).
The local police chief, Oscar Arriola, said that based on witness testimony, the perpetrator of the attack was a man riding a motorbike.

The perpetrator shot at the SUV type car repeatedly before stepping on the gas.
The bullet shattered the windshield, leaving bloodstains on Belaunde’s face and clothes from injuries caused by the broken glass.Police said neither Belaunde nor his car driver suffered serious injuries in the attack in the city about 130 kilometers from Peru’s capital, Lima.
“Shots were fired towards the vehicle and towards him [Belaunde],” Arriola told reporters, as quoted by
AFP.
Belaunde admitted to police that he had not received any threatening messages before the attack.
Belaunde is a former energy minister who founded the far-right party, Libertad Popular.He is also known as the grandson of Peru’s former two-term president, Fernando Belaunde.
The politician told police he had not received any threats.
