Propose changes to the legislative election system (

The revision of the Election Law has been determined to enter the Priority Program 2026.
Secretary General (Secretary General) of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto said the system’s proposal had become the attitude of his party in the Congress in early August.He considered that the proposal was important so that party institutionalization could run.

“Indeed, the party in the process of conducting institutionalization so that party functions can run, the attitude of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle in the congress is indeed prioritizing a closed proportional,” Hasto said at the Party School on Wednesday (9/24).
Hasto assesses that electoral democracy which is only based on populism will only give birth to politics that is industrial and too capitalistic.As a result, politics requires a large investment.
However, according to him, a closed proportional system must still be accompanied by democratization within the party, and improving the cadetation system.Thus, prospective legislative members who are nominated are those who understand and have qualifications.
“So that what is nominated is those who are very understanding and have the highest qualifications in carrying out the legislative functions, budgets, supervision for the design of Indonesia in the future,” he said.
Hasto said that the proposal was still in the communication stage.He did not dismiss there was also a proposal to mix the open and closed proportional system as applicable in Germany.
“Yes, this is still in a process so that the dialogues will also be carried out along with the government,” he said.
Even so, according to him, the proposed proportional system is closed only for the legislative election.Meanwhile, the presidential election and regional head elections continue to use the open and direct election system.
“If a closed proportional is for legislative elections. For the Presidential Election, Vice President, Regional Head Deputy Regional Head, it is directly elected by the people,” he said.
