North Aceh Regency Government Spokesperson Muntasir Ramli confirmed the letter. He said the Regent made the decision after seeing firsthand the impact of the damage that had occurred.
“Yes, that’s right (the letter of inability to handle the disaster). The Regent has directly monitored the area, even penetrated the most isolated areas to see directly the community and the impact of the devastating floods that devastated 90 percent of the North Aceh area,” said Muntasir when contacted.
Temporary data from the Aceh Disaster Emergency Response Post updated Tuesday (2/12) at 19:37 WIB, 115,927 residents are still displaced. Then 112 people died and 118 people were declared missing.
Damage to public facilities, namely 102 offices, 11 places of worship, 120 schools, 7 bridges and 20,823 houses of North Aceh residents were damaged.
The government meanwhile emphasized that the flood and landslide disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra were still not designated as national disasters.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Pratikno, said that although it has not been declared a national disaster, disaster management has been carried out nationally.
He explained that all ministries/institutions had been ordered by President Prabowo to mobilize maximum resources.
“All ministries/institutions were ordered by the President, including the TNI-Polri, BNPB and all components to mobilize their resources as fully as possible to deal with the disaster in Sumatra. So once again the handling is really full force handling nationally,” said Pratikno at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Wednesday (3/12).
