Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the government had prioritized strategic steps in realizing the transformation of the green industry.
He said the effort included energy efficiency, utilization of renewable energy, and the application of low carbon technology.
“For emissions that are difficult to eliminate fully, additional solutions are needed such as Carbon Capture Utilization (CCU) technology, which is able to capture and utilize carbon from the production process. Currently, we are carrying out CCU pilot projects based on hydrometallurgicals at PT Petrokimia Gresik,” Agus in The 2nd Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit (Aigis) 2025 in Jakarta, Wednesday (20/8).
The pilot project has the potential to capture co₂ up to 65 percent or more than exhaust gas.This project also changes it to soda Ash or baking soda that is commercial value so that it can reduce imports.
“This technology not only supports NZE targets, but also provides economic added value,” Agus added.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry is also exploring the use of algae micro as a carbon capture solution that produces biomass, green hydrogen, to cosmetic raw materials.
According to him the main source of nutrition from micro algae food is co₂.While micro algae also have added value that can be pushed through downstreaming in producing biomass, green hydrogen, and cosmetic raw materials.
Agus said Carbon Capture Utilization (CCU) technology developed by Uwin Resources Regeneration Inc. has obtained a patent in various countries.In the laboratory stage, the CCU system prototype has undergone official testing by the Tüv Rheinland Taiwan accredited institution, with results showing the reduction in CO₂ emissions of more than 99%.
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry, Uwin Resources and PT Petrokimia Gresik have also signed an MoU to carry out an industrial -scale pilot project in Petrochemical production facilities.
At present, the hydrometallurgical CCU pilot project is taking place at PT Petrokimia Gresik.In the next two months, it is expected that data can be obtained regarding the CO₂ absorption rate, so that it can make a significant contribution to the efforts to achieve the Green Gas Gas Net Zero Emission in 2050.
In addition, this project is expected to be able to support the circular economy through the utilization of additional value by side products, namely Soda Ash and Baking Soda, which until now is still widely imported by Indonesia.
