not as difficult as imagined and optimistic that this will be achieved in the near future.
“Self-sufficiency is easy, as easy as turning the palm of your hand. It’s not reversed, it’s not as easy as turning your palm,” said Amran at the HIPMI-Danantara Indonesia Business Forum 2025 at the Kempinski Grand Ballroom, Central Jakarta, Monday (20/10).

One of them is the prediction of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which estimates that Indonesian rice production in 2025 will reach 34.6 million tons, growing 4.8 percent compared to the previous year. This prediction was made by the USDA last April.
This amount is much higher than other ASEAN countries, such as Vietnam which only had 26,500 tonnes, Thailand (20,100 tonnes), the Philippines (12 thousand tonnes), Cambodia (7,377 tonnes), Laos (1,810 tonnes) and Malaysia (1,750 tonnes).
“America has predicted that the Prabowo-Gibran government will produce (rice) 34 (million tons). We visited America, asked about what was used, apparently using satellites. So they already know about our rice,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicts that Indonesia will be the country with the second highest rice production in the world after Brazil.Based on FAO data, Indonesian rice is predicted to reach 35.6 million tons during the 2025/2026 planting period.
“We are recognized by FAO. This, this FAO acknowledges, last week we were given an award. This, we are number 2 in world production increase. Brazil is number 1. God willing, hopefully next year Indonesia will be number 1 in the world,” he said.
