Malaysian national team naturalization defender,
Facundo Garces
, clarifying the issue that had made a scene about his status as a descendant player.
Through his personal Instagram Story, Tuesday (8/19), Garces explained that there was a translation error related to the descendant’s origin, which had triggered a warm conversation on social media.
In an interview with Portal El Correo, Garces had said that he had Malaysian blood from his great -grandfather, which was then misinterpreted by some circles.
This is immediately a matter of debate, especially related to his status as a naturalized player who is considered to violate FIFA regulations.
Many netizens question whether Garces descendants are quite eligible as naturalized players based on rules that limit to third generation offspring.
Responding to this, Garces denied the accusation and stressed that he was proud to be able to represent Malaysia.
In the latest upload on his Instagram account, the 25-year-old player revealed that it was only a translation error.
“That’s just a transcription error. I am a Malaysian from my grandfather and I am very proud to play for my country. See you again,” he wrote on Instagram Story quoted from

.
Garces, who played for Deportivo Alaves in the Spanish League season 2025/26, was previously the key to his team’s victory over Levante with a score of 1-0.
Garces was one of the players who had just been naturalized by the Malaysian national team in June 2025. Garces itself has made his debut with the Malaysian national team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualification.
In the match against Vietnam on June 10, 2025, he performed full for 90 minutes and brought Malaysia to win a landslide victory 4-0.
He is now part of the new Malaysian naturalized player group from Latin background.Besides Garces, several other players who have just been naturalized by Malaysia are Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Rodrigo Holgado, Gabriel Palmero, and Jon Irazabal. This naturalized program was carried out to strengthen the Malaysian national team in their efforts to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup.
