Ahead of the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia is a form of freedom of expression.
Chairman of the National Commission on Human Rights Anis Hidayah said that it was actually a symbolic expression of citizens guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia in 1945, as part of freedom of opinion and expression.
“Actually that, right, symbolic expressions of citizens which are guaranteed in the constitution, part of the right to freedom of opinion and expression,” Anis said in Jakarta, Wednesday (6/8).
He also emphasized that the state must guarantee the rights of every citizen.”Moreover, this, right, in the middle of the month of independence, it should be how the government ensures an independent community to use their rights,” he said.
Komnas HAM deplored an excessive response to the use of these symbols.Excessive responses are feared to be a form of preventing society to carry out their rights from issuing opinions and expressing.
“We regret and regret if there is a ban, excessive response, then until there is removal, arrest, it should not be done,” Anis said.
Komnas HAM appealed especially to the government to respond to public expression more wisely and always maintain the fulfillment of the human rights of every citizen.
“Komnas HAM appealed that the government would not excessive in responding and we encourage the government to guarantee freedom of expression in Indonesia, especially the government carrying out its obligations in respecting, protecting, and meeting human rights,” Anis said.
Previously, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi reminded that the phenomenon of raising the pirate flag from the Japanese manga series, One Piece, before August 17, 2025 did not interfere with the sanctity of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
“We hope that in August, don’t target sacred things. This is our 80th anniversary of independence,” Prasetyo Hadi said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (4/8).
He claimed not to question the raising of the One Piece flag as a form of freedom of expression, but it would be a problem when ridden by certain parties for an interest, for example encouraging flag raising other than red and white on the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin assessed that the skull flag with Jelly Roger’s straw from the One Piece series did not deserve to fly under the flag of Indonesia during the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
“The red and white flag, there is a skull flag underneath, the time of the Red and White is being backed up by the skull. Not right,” Sjafrie said when met at the Ministry of Defense Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (5/8).
According to Sjafrie, the Red and White flag is a symbol of a sacred country and must be appreciated by the whole community because of the sacrifice of heroes.The sacredness will be tarnished if you have to fly along with the One Piece flag.
