, Kadek Alel was bluntly revealed the problem that caused a draw against Laos in the inaugural match of Group J Asian Cup U-23 2026.
The Indonesian U-23 national team failed to win in the inaugural match of Group J U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers 2026 after being detained by Laos 0-0 at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium on Wednesday (3/9) night.
Indonesia was unable to score a single goal from a total of 25 shots made against Laos.Five of them were right on target and all were thwarted by goalkeeper Laos Kop Lokpha Dife.
While as many as 12 shots were not on target and eight other shots were blocked by the Laos defense.
Indonesian U-23 national team captain Kadek Alel revealed the failure of his team to score because he was not focused on attacking.
“Indeed, we lack focus on how we attack. We know everything that has been given by Coach,” Kadek Alel was quoted as saying from Antara.
The failure to score this goal continued the problem owned by Garuda Muda since the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup which was held in Jakarta last July.
Because, after a big 8-0 victory against Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia failed to score another goal from the Open Play scheme.
Kadek also emphasized that the Indonesian U-23 national team must immediately improve in order to achieve maximum results in the next two matches.
“We have to change as quickly as possible how we score goals,” Kadek said.
Kadek also apologized to the people of Indonesia following the failure of Garuda Muda to defeat Laos in the first match of the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup qualifying.
“I apologize to all Indonesian people, we also know that Indonesia is also grieving now. I represent players, and at the same time I as the captain apologize profusely to all Indonesian people because we failed to win in the first match,” Kadek said.
This one point score made Indonesia’s mission to qualify for the finals played in Saudi Arabia in January 2026 more tense because they had to win the next two matches against Macau on Saturday (6/9) and South Korea on Tuesday (9/9).
