10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia,
Jusuf Kalla
alias JK revealed tense moments when the government finally allowed
Aceh
have local parties to take part in the election.
This was conveyed by JK in the Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) at the DPR Legislation Board (Baleg) discussed the revision of Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning the Aceh Government (PA Law), Thursday (11/9).
JK said the tense moment occurred when the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) finally agreed to make peace through the Helsinki agreement in 2005. At that time, as Vice President, JK was responsible for resolving conflicts representing the government.
“Then political parties, the last debate is a local party. Our party is national. That is the most tense, the last night is over. About local parties,” JK said at a meeting.
JK claimed he had never slept at night during the negotiations.Because, he who is in Indonesia is always connected to the delegation team in Helsinki, Finland, which has a time difference of six hours.
“I was in the middle of the night, the time of negotiations, I never slept. Because of 6 hours difference. If Hamid [Awaluddin] leads to the Indonesian delegation, it negotiated until 6 pm
“And I have to communicate to make decisions, on time, there is no postponement. There is no consultation with the center, no,” he added.
During the process, JK revealed that his telephone must always be connected because the negotiation process was chasing with the Aceh Disaster Emergency Condition after the Tsunami 2024.
According to JK, the government finally decided that Aceh was allowed to have a local party. The decision was based on a local party that was previously also owned by Papua.
“This Papuan Autonomy Law has a sentence that says, the people of Papua have the right to establish a party. That’s all. Ah I say this, he asked [Hamid], at 1.00 at night here, agreeing about local parties because there are rules about Papua, namely Papua why Aceh can’t?”Said JK.
In addition to the specialty or specificity to have a local party, JK said that Aceh was also given a specificity about the revenue sharing of natural resources. He said, if other regions only got 15 percent, Aceh could get 70 percent.
“Many are asking why it is high, I say the people of Aceh are the people of Indonesia too. Why not enjoy the area? This is not for foreigners,” said JK.
After the Helsinki agreement, the Aceh local party began to participate in the 2009 elections. There were six parties participated at that time. The number was reduced to four parties in the 2014 elections, and five parties in 2019.
Whereas in the last 2024 elections, the number returned to six, namely the Aceh Party (PA), the Aceh Daulat Party (PDA), the Aceh Nanggroe Party (PNA), the SIRA Party, the Gabthat Party, and the Aceh Prosperous Party (Pas Aceh).
However, of the six parties, only four parties have seats in the Aceh DPR, namely PA 20 seats, Pas Aceh 4 seats, and one seat each for PNA and PDA.Of the total 81 seats, local parties have 26 seats in the Aceh DPR.
PA even has the most seats in the Aceh DPR, compared to all national parties, and doubled of the 10 seats owned by Nasdem in second place as a party led by a politician from Aceh, Surya Paloh.
