“I’m monitoring it, but this is the one holding Persani. We’ll see how it develops,” said Sugiono to reporters at the State Palace, Wednesday (8/10).
“That’s who organized Persani, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not request permission,” he continued.
Sugiono added that the decision to accept visas or not for Israeli athletes in Indonesia is the authority of immigration, not the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has so far been reluctant to comment on this issue.
“That’s a hypothetical question. We don’t know yet whether it will be approved or not,” said Sugiono.
Previously, it was reported that a number of Israeli athletes would take part in the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships which were planned to be held in Jakarta this October.
The Israel Gymnastics Federation admitted that it had registered to take part in the championship.
According to the federation, it has communicated with organizers in Indonesia. They also hope that the delegates will be welcomed and guaranteed safety while participating.
Deputy Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sukamta rejected the plan for the participation of Israeli athletes.Sukamta urged the government to be firm regarding Israeli athletes.
“The government must demonstrate an Indonesian foreign policy stance that is freely active, pro-humanity and in accordance with the mandate of the constitution. Don’t let us concede again regarding Israel’s participation in international sporting events,” said Sukamta in a written statement.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has also stated that he will not allow the presence of Israeli athletes in Jakarta.
He then asked the organization to reconsider its intention to invite or accept Israeli athletes.More than that, Pramono urged immigration to refuse visas for Zionist Country athletes.
“Because there is no benefit in conditions like this for gymnastics athletes to compete in Jakarta. It will definitely inflame, ignite public anger in conditions like this,” said Pramono at City Hall.
