Kuwait’s substitute for FIFA Matchday September 5 in the next few days.
PSSI Chairperson Erick Thohir said that his party continued to try to get a replacement for Kuwait, which was originally scheduled to be against the Indonesian national team in a trial match at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya.
“On the 8th [September] right [against] Lebanon, on the 5th [September] we are still waiting for hopefully in 1-2 days there is news,” said Erick on the sidelines of the submission of the naturalization of Indonesian national team players at the Parliament Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/26).
Initially PSSI had received Kuwait and Lebanon to become opponents of the Indonesian national team in FIFA Matchday September.Initially the Indonesian national team, Kuwait and Lebanon will meet in a triangular tournament titled Garuda Championship Series.
However, in the last moment the Kuwaitan Football Federation (KFA) canceled the participation of the Kuwait national team at the event.This condition made Erick disappointed.
“We are certainly very sorry because [preparation] we have been long ago. Everything has been locked. We have plans to fight the Middle East team, Kuwait and Lebanon. Initially we were also allowed to interpret bad.
“Now that’s what I might have an internal issue I don’t want to accuse. But we have sent a loud letter to Kuwait,” Erick said during the introduction of Alexander Zwiers as PSSI Technical Director in Jakarta, Monday (8/25) night.
Not only sent a letter of protest to the Kuwait Federation, PSSI will also report this unilateral cancellation to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
PSSI, said Erick, suffered a loss after Kuwait canceled participation unilaterally.For this reason, PSSI will try hard to get Kuwait’s replacement.
The Garuda Championship Series was used by the Indonesian national team in preparation ahead of the Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the 4th round of the 2026 World Cup, next October.
