Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai was announced as the winner
Nobel Prize for Literature 2025
.From the start, he was one of the strong nominees for this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature, along with Chinese writer Can Xue.
The Swedish Academy revealed that this prestigious award was given to Krasznahorkai for his work which was considered visionary.

“The 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai for his compelling and visionary work, which, amidst apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art,” read the announcement on Thursday (9/10).
The author will also receive an award of 11 million krona or the equivalent of IDR 19.36 billion (1 krona = IDR 1,760.59).

Krasznahorkai is known for his melancholic dystopian novels which have won various awards, including the 2019 National Book Award for translated literature and the 2015 Man Booker International award.
Several of his works, including the novels Satantango and The Melancholy of Resistance, have been adapted into feature films.
The Nobel is an annual award for achievements in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace established by the will of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite, who died in 1896.
The award in economics was added by the Swedish central bank in 1968.
