admitted that he was ready to take legal action if dialogue efforts regarding the impeachment issue did not materialize.
In a press conference at the PBNU Office, on Wednesday (3/12), Gus Yahya insisted that he still served as General Chair of PBNU.Therefore, he encouraged efforts for dialogue and deliberation regarding the ongoing polemic.
“We will defend this as strongly as possible through dialogue, deliberation with common sense, with good intentions, with a sincere heart,” he said at a press conference.

“This is completely rejected, maybe because of interests or whatever, yes we are ready to take legal action to maintain the integrity of this organizational structure,” he added.
Gus Yahya emphasized that according to the AD/ART and PBNU regulations, the position of General Chair cannot be replaced at will except through a congress.
So, he said, the results of the Syuriyah Daily Meeting regarding his removal were unacceptable and null and void because they were outside the authority of Syuriyah itself.
Furthermore, Gus Yahya admitted that he had no problem stepping down from his position as Chairman of the PBNU as long as it was done through a conference process.
Therefore, he encouraged the implementation of the NU conference to be carried out immediately.So, he said, the conference participants will make decisions regarding the polemic.
“Regarding this position is not the most important thing, but the most important thing is regarding the organizational structure. Let’s implement this organizational structure,” he said.
Furthermore, Gus Yahya admitted that he and the other management had made a decision with the determination to maintain the order of this organization as strongly as possible.
“We are not willing to give up all of this just for the one-sided interests or partial interests of some people,” he concluded.
The internal conflict at PBNU started with the circulation of documents from the minutes of PBNU’s daily Syuriyah meeting, 20 November 2025.The forum asked Yahya Cholil Staquf to resign or be removed from the position of General Chair of PBNU, within three days.
The document was signed by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar.Some of the reasons for the impeachment included the fact that Yahya was considered to have links to the international Zionist network, and was deemed to have violated PBNU’s financial governance.
A few days later, Wednesday (26/11), a PBNU circular was issued bearing the electronic signatures of Deputy Rais Aam Afifuddin Muhajir and Katib Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir, Number: 4785/PB.02/A.II.10.01/99/11/202, which stated that Yahya no longer had the status of general chairman.
Responding to the results of the Syuriyah board meeting and the letter, Gus Yahya fought back and admitted that he would not resign.He also stated that the letter was invalid.He emphasized that he still had the status of Chairman of PBNU.
In line with this, Gus Yahya removed the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf alias Gus Ipul from his position as PBNU Secretary General (Sekjen), and also removed Gudfan Arif from the position of PBNU General Treasurer.
Gus Ipul’s removal was based on the decision of the Tanfidziyah Daily Meeting which was held Friday (28/11) at the PBNU office, Kramat Raya, Jakarta.The meeting was chaired directly by Gus Yahya as General Chair of PBNU.
Next, Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar finally appeared in public and stated that Gus Yahya would no longer serve as General Chair of PBNU as of November 26 2025 at 00.45 WIB.
Gus Ipul meanwhile handed over NU’s internal problems to the ulama.
“If it is NU, we will hand it over to the ulama. Because this is Nahdlatul Ulama,” said Gus Ipul to journalists, Wednesday (3/12).
According to him, the ulama at PBNU make decisions based on religious values.So, Gus Ipul emphasized that he would follow the decision of the ulama.
“Of course the ulama make decisions based on religious values. That’s all. So we follow the ulama’s decisions,” he said.
