Mimika Regent
Johannes Rettob together with Director & EVP Sustainable Development of PT Freeport Indonesia Claus Wamafma launched a clean water distribution program from the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) or clean water treatment facilities in Kuala Kencana.
“This is an extraordinary cooperation between us the government and PTFI, so that currently the Mimika community can feel the positive impact of this clean water program,” Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob said in his remarks.
The Regent expressed his appreciation to PTFI who had supported the government in various programs, especially in the clean water program in Mimika.
“I thank PT Freeport Indonesia who together with the government in carrying out, the clean water program in Mimika, I hope and ask for its support so that the source (WTP) continues, so that the distribution is also a road,” he said.
Clean water treatment facilities for the Mimika community are the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Mimika Regency Government and PTFI in 2013.
Based on the MoU, PTFI is responsible for building clean water treatment infrastructure (WTP), while the Mimika Regency Government is responsible for the distribution of clean water to the community.PTFI finished building clean water treatment facilities in 2019 with a PTFI investment of approximately US $ 10 million or equivalent to Rp150 billion.
PTFI then submitted the facility to the Mimika Regency Government in October 2023. This facility has a capacity of 2 units of clean water treatment, 2 reservoir tanks with a total capacity of 2.5 million liters and 4 units of pumps capable of supplying 200 liters of clean water per second.
Meanwhile, the clean water distribution pipeline that has been built by the Mimika Regency Government has now reached around 13,000 houses.Of these, around 8,000 houses have been actively flowed by clean water sourced from clean water treatment facilities in Kuala Kencana.
The Regent said that in the future, his party targeted this clean water service to reach 50,000 houses until 2027, with a potential beneficiary of 250,000 residents of Timika and surrounding areas.
Director & EVP Sustainable Development of PTFI Claus Wamafma in his remarks said that Mimika Regency experienced very rapid growth. One important achievement is the fulfillment of the basic needs of the community for clean water.
“Today we witness how the hard work of the Mimika Regency Government brings water to the doors of the community’s homes,” he said.
