This demonstration was triggered by government policies that block 26 popular social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Youtube, and X, because these companies do not register according to new regulations.
However, beyond that, inequality and unemployment have become a problem that squeezes people’s lives.
At least 51 people were killed in the worst violence since the end of the civil war and the abolition of monarchy in 2008.
The military again controlled the streets on Wednesday (10/9), by imposing curfew.
The appointment of the first female chairman occurred after two days of intensive negotiations between Army Commander General Ashok Raj Sigdel and Paudel, including representatives from the “Gen Z” group
Thousands of young activists have used online discord applications to discuss the next step – and appoint karki as their choice for the next leader.
Karki, who wore red sari, took an oath but did not give a further speech. He smiled and bowed with both hands being tasted repeatedly in traditional greetings.
“This is the moment of victory … Finally the vacancy has ended,” said Amrita Ban, a protester of Gen Z.
The presidential press advisor Kiran Pokharel said that “a council will be formed afterwards, and other processes will be continued afterwards”.
