Flash floods
Those who hit Namo Village, Kulawi District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, caused two houses to be dragged by flooding.
“Yes, there are two houses were swept away by the current and eight houses affected,” said Head of Central Sulawesi BPBD, Akris Fattah Yunus in his written statement on Friday (8/15).
The flood occurred on Thursday (8/14) around 20:00 pm due to river water overflowing after rain with heavy intensity flushed Sigi Regency.
“This flood was triggered by heavy rain for more than two hours which made the river overflow, carrying mud and wood material to residential areas,” he said.
Based on the Central Sulawesi BPBD report, as many as eight houses were affected, one house was heavily damaged, two houses were dragged by the current.
“Flood material also closed the access to the Palu-Pulawi road, so that the flow of transportation was totally stopped,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Sigi BPBD Team together with the local government have evacuated residents to a safer point and accelerate the process of sending assistance to affected residents.
“Until now the exact number of refugees and casualties is still in data collection,” he said.
