CS-137 material recently was found in the industrial area in Cikande, Serang Regency, Banten. The radioactive exposure was known after the frozen shrimp products were rejected by US authorities.
The rejection followed the examination conducted by the FDA and the US Customs in August. Both bodies find radiation content in shrimp containers from RI.
The investigation then continued into the country.Apparently, found a positive material CS-137 in a place to collect used metal in the Modern Cikande industrial area.
The examination results ensure that the source of pollution comes from the scrap metal smelting activity at PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT) which operates in the industrial area.
Responding to this, the government then established the Cikande Industrial Estate as a special zone of CS-137 radiation. This step is taken to accelerate the decontamination of CS-137 material.
The government also examined PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT) and 15 used iron stall owners.Residents who are exposed to radioactive are also promised to be given special treatment.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Environment said it would sue PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT) and PT Modern Cikande in a criminal and civil in the aftermath of this incident.
