Fam’s excuse: FIFA has checked Malaysian naturalized players before playing

“FAM has managed all related documentation and procedures in accordance with the established guidelines. In fact, FIFA has previously reviewed the qualifications of the players and provided official confirmation that they qualified to represent Malaysia,” said Datuk Wira added.

FIFA officially imposed sanctions on FAM and seven naturalized Malaysian national team players on Friday (9/26).
This sentence was decided by the FIFA Disciplinary Commission after conducting a deepening related reports after the Vietnam vs Malaysia match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10, 2025.
After the match, FIFA received many reports related to the truth of the administrative data of the five naturalization of the Malaysian national team, Facundo Tomás Garcés, Rodrigo Julián Holgado, João Vitor Brandão Figueiredo, Jon Irazábal Iraurgui, and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano.
After going through the applicable legal process, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee reviewed all the existing evidence and imposed sanctions on FAM and seven Malaysian national team players related to counterfeiting and use of fake documents.
Komdis FIFA decided that the Malaysian Football Association (FAM) violated Article 22 of FIFA’s disciplinary code.FIFA gave a fine to FAM of CHF 350,000 or around Rp7.3 billion.

FIFA also sentenced the sentence to the seven Malaysian national team players in the form of a ban on participating in all activities related to football for 12 months, valid from the date of the decision notification, namely Friday (9/26) night.The seven players were also fined by CHF 2,000 or around Rp41.8 million.
Related to this decision, FAM will file an appeal and will use all the paths and legal procedures available to ensure that the interests of the Malaysian national players and national teams are always protected.
“FAM remains committed to acting decisively, complying with international regulations, and maintaining the integrity of national football,” said Datuk Wira Yusoff.
“We will also continue to work closely with the Malaysian government and all stakeholders to ensure that the process is transparent, fair, and based on the spirit of sportsmanship,” said Datuk Wira Yusoff added.
