Menpora RI,
Erick Thohir
, calling Indonesia has the potential to lose 41 gold in
SEA Games 2025
.
This is because the organizing committee in Thailand crossed out many match numbers that became the mainstay of the Red and White Team at the 2025 SEA Games, 9-20 December.
“From [potential] 87 gold medals, 41 gold decreased. So what is the ranking? Maybe [Indonesia] will be ranked fifth or sixth in the SEA Games [2025].
“For what it looks like, we will talk about sports for additional gold potential,” he continued.
In addition to the reduced gold issue, Erick also expressed the government budget of the Indonesian contingent which was only Rp10 billion.Related to this, Erick will invite a discussion of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.
“I am asking for time with the Minister of Finance. I know Mr. Purbaya is my best friend when in the previous position,” Erick said.
“But indeed today’s budget is still locked even though the preparation of the SEA Games is only two months,” he added.
Furthermore, Erick said that the limited budget could potentially cut the number of athletes departing.Automatically, the quantity of representatives leaving for Thailand can affect the nicks of medals obtained.
“In the past, 87 [gold] could be ranked third. Now 41 [gold] can be ranked sixth as possible. Moreover, from the funding that is now available only Rp10 billion, means we can only send 120 athletes [if the budget does not increase,” said Erick.
“Because of that I want to sit with the Minister of Finance but he is very busy, sorry. But I’m sure Mr. Minister has the same love as national sports because on average sending 900 athletes,” he said.
