For some people, night is the right time to pamper the tongue with heavy snacks like
ketoprak
, fried rice, or even tektek noodles. The tempting aroma of spices on the side of the road is often difficult to reject, especially after a day of activities.
The question is, is it safe to eat menus like above late at night?
Clinical Nutrition Specialist Johannes Chandrawinata explained, foods such as ketoprak, fried rice, or tektek noodles generally have high calorie, fat, and salt content.
Johannes detailed the number of calories in each food.Ketoprak, for example, which per portion (200 grams) contains 14 calories, 15 g of fat, and 390 milligrams (mg) sodium.Fried rice per one bowl mold contains 330 calories, 12 g of fat, and 600 mg of sodium.
While the tektek noodles per portion of 200 g can contain 600 calories and 24 g of fat.
The content will be higher when consumed together with complementary such as crackers and fried foods.
Excessive calorie, fat, and sodium intake not only has the potential to increase the risk of chronic diseases, but can also affect the quality of sleep, especially if consumed less than three hours before sleep.
“Eating high -calorie foods before bedtime can cause sleep disorders such as difficult to fall asleep or often wake up at night. If directly lying down after eating, the risk of stomach acid reflux, stomach pain, and digestive disorders also increase,” Johannes said when contacted by cartitleloansIndonesia.com, Wednesday (8/13).
Not only that, consumption of high carbohydrate foods such as rice or noodles can make blood sugar levels rise and fall quickly, thus causing discomfort in the body.
If done continuously, then this habit has the potential to cause weight gain and obesity.
Johannes suggested to avoid heavy eating at least 2-3 hours before bedtime. If hunger comes before night, choose healthy snacks small and low -calorie portions, such as fresh fruit or a handful of grilled beans without oil.
“Avoid foods high in calories, fats, and salt. If you want to help sleep more soundly, choose foods containing tryptophan such as edamame or yellow pumpkin quackers, as well as magnesium -rich foods such as green vegetables and avocados,” he added.
Johannes also said, there’s no harm in eating ketoprak or fried rice occasionally at night if the time is far enough from sleep and the portion is controlled. However, if done too often and too soluble, the risk of sleep disorders to long -term health problems should be watched out for.
“Want to have breakfast or dinner the key is only one, control and not too often,” he said.
