DPR asks the Ministry of Health to send doctors and health workers to disaster areas in Sumatra

This was conveyed by the Deputy Chair of Commission IX, Yahya Zaini, after receiving many reports of increasing health complaints from refugee victims of the disaster.

“The Ministry of Health must immediately send doctors, health workers and medicine to the locations of the Sumatran disaster victims. They will immediately be deployed to help residents affected by the disaster,” said Yahya in his statement, Wednesday (3/12).
He asked the government to start being aware of the spike in post-flood diseases, especially those that attack vulnerable groups in refugee camps.According to him, now many refugees are starting to experience diarrhea, diarrhea and itching.
“A lot of refugees have diarrhea, diarrhea, almost all those affected by this disaster are infected with disease. Moreover, the problem of drinking water also affects their health,” said Yahya.
In Beutong Ateuh, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, said Yahya, dozens of residents reported experiencing diarrhea, respiratory infections and skin diseases due to the lack of clean water and poor sanitation.
“The condition of refugees is said to have worsened in recent days due to limited medical facilities,” he said.
He also encouraged comprehensive health checks for all affected residents, especially those living in refugee camps.According to Yahya, the government must also start establishing health posts among residents.
“Check the health of all residents affected by the disaster, especially those living in refugee camps. Coordinate with regional offices, regional hospitals and community health centers. Prepare health posts in the midst of residents affected by the disaster,” he said.
