The Colombian club America de Cali officially confirmed that the player strengthened
Malaysian national team
, Rodrigo Holgado was sanctioned one year by FIFA.
Sanctions from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee are related to violations committed by the Malaysian Football Federation (FAM) and seven naturalized Malaysian national team players, including Holgado.FAM and a number of these players violated Article 22 of FIFA’s disciplinary code related to counterfeiting and use of fake documents.
Besides Holgado, six other players namely Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomas Garces, Imanol Javier Machuca, Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui, and Hect Hector Serrano were also sentenced to the same sanctions in the form of active ban on football.

“America de Cali informed the fans, media, and the public that today we have received notifications about the sanctions imposed by FIFA to Rodrigo Holgado, in the form of a ban on participating in all types of activities related to football for 12 months.
“Both FAM and players [Holgado] will file an appeal in accordance with the provisions in the FIFA disciplinary code.”
The new Malaysian naturalized players performed in a match against Vietnam in the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10, 2025.
After the match, FIFA received many reports related to the truth of the administrative data of the five naturalized Malaysian team players, Facundo Tomas Garces, Rodrigo Julian Holgado, Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui, and Hector Alejandro Hevel Hevel Serrano.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee then reviewed all the existing evidence and imposed sanctions, namely the Malaysian Football Association (FAM) was fined by CHF 350 thousand or around Rp7.3 billion.Then each of the seven players was sanctioned by a one-year playing ban and a fine of CHF 2,000 (Rp.41.8 million).
