The Solidarity Action Committee for Munir (Kasum) gave a deadline to the National Human Rights Commission (

) until 8 December 2025 to determine the case of death

The demand was conveyed by the Commission Coordinator for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) when occupying the Komnas HAM office, Jakarta, Monday (8/9).
“We ask that December 8 will be issued by Komnas HAM to establish the Munir case as a serious violation,” said Dimas.
He stated that the public would continue to oversee the work of the National Human Rights Commission.
“We are watching together, we continue to urge Komnas HAM on December 8th there must be a statement issued by the National Human Rights Commission to establish the Munir case as a serious violation (HAM),” he added.
Chairman of the National Commission on Human Rights Anis Hidayah accepted these demands.Anis is ready to resign if until December 8 there is no decision related to the handling of the Munir death case.
“Please note friends, (if) until December 8, the National Commission on Human Rights has not completed an investigation of Munir’s murder, then of course I am willing to resign,” Anis said.
Kasum Chairman Usman Hamid revealed that the handling of the Munir case had no progress at all.It has been 21 years since Munir’s death, no justice appeared.
“The Attorney General should reopen with a review. The police should have opened up with a new investigation, but to this day there has been no progress at all. That is why we came to the National Human Rights Commission,” Usman said.
The Executive Director of Amnesty International Indonesia (AII) then questioned the commitment of the National Human Rights Commission which never set the Munir case as a gross human rights violation.In fact, projects of projects have been carried out for more than two years.
“Yesterday we heard that the Chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights stated that they had been investigated for two and a half years, even we mentioned that we had been the third year to the National Human Rights Commission, meaning that the Komnas HAM investigation was too protracted,” he added.
“This case is very important to clean the Indonesian state of evil people. Cleaning the State Intelligence Agency from people who abuse power. Clean the TNI, cleanse the National Police from those who abuse power and take refuge behind the power of its institution,” continued Usman.
Meanwhile, Anis Hidayah stated that the investigation conducted by the National Human Rights Commission continued.The investigation team, he explained, had collected documents from a number of related institutions and agencies.
Then he had examined witnesses, so far there were 18 witnesses who had been examined.
Furthermore, coordinating with a number of authorized agencies for the benefit of investigation.
Anis added that the investigation team had also conducted a review of the Minutes of Witness Examination (BAP) in order to arrange the framework of findings and other instructions.
In addition, the investigation team is also called routinely holding a coordination meeting with the parties, and holding a routine meeting to discuss the development of the investigation.
The investigation team is also said to have compiled the development of the results of the investigation into the report.
“We are committed to us to complete and we can immediately convey,” Anis said.
Human rights activist Munir Said Talib was killed on September 7, 2004. He exhaled the last breath on the Garuda Indonesia aircraft that took him to Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The autopsy results concluded that Munir was killed by arsenic poison in his body.
The legal process is running.Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto was sentenced by the panel of judges Tjitut Sutiyarso for 14 years in prison.
However, the Supreme Court (MA) granted the appeal submitted by Pollycarpus which stated that he was innocent for the murder of the human rights activist.
Pollycarpus was only convicted of the falsification of letters in 2008. He was free in August 2018 after receiving a remission or cutting of the prison period of 51 months 80 days.
Another actor who served the sentence of Munir’s death was Indra Setiawan, a former Director of Garuda Indonesia who was sentenced to one year in prison for being found guilty of providing planned murder assistance to Munir.Indra was free in April 2008 after undergoing a detention period according to the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court.
In addition to Pollycarpus and Indra, there was Muchdi Prawirandjono who was also involved in the death of Munir.However, Muchdi PR was sentenced to be free by the Panel of Judges of the South Jakarta District Court in December 2008.The Attorney General’s Office did not submit a review of the verdict.
