.Some time ago, a toddler in Sukabumi died after suffering from worms.
The latest, a child aged 1 year and 8 months in Seluma Regency, Bengkulu, experienced severe worms until the worms come out of their mouths and nose.
Responding to this phenomenon, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), Piprim Basarah Yanuarso rate, the case of repeated intestinal worms showed weak primary health services in Indonesia.According to him, the strengthening of basic health services must be the main focus, not only the construction of hospitals.
“So we actually do not get caught up down to the downstreaming of health. So repairing the hospital, repairing the hospital, the building is made magnificently, yes. But in the upstream, it is the most important thing, so that this is the most important thing, so that this is like a posyandu strengthening for example, strengthening health cadres, strengthening puskesmas,” Piprim said when met in East Jakarta, Saturday (9/20), quoting seconds.
He stressed, Posyandu, Puskesmas, and Health cadres are vital foundations for the quality of public health.One that must be considered is the data collection of toddlers in each region.
Good recording related to immunization and consumption of worm drugs is believed to be able to prevent fatal cases as happened in Sukabumi and Bengkulu.
“Have you got a worm medicine for not every 6 months? Have you got a vitamin A yet? If these programs are recorded well, and toddlers are not left behind, this is a case of worried up to 1 kilo, that does not happen like that, because it is detected with the beginning. Well, this is the importance of strengthening primary health,” he said.
Furthermore, Piprim stressed the need for community collaboration in preventing similar cases.According to him, this cannot only be charged to the government.The role of Posyandu cadres, PKK mothers, to village officials must be reactivated.
“So let’s come together, we strengthen the foundation of the community, the fondness of Indonesian people who are already well known throughout the world, let’s prove it,” he added.
As a concrete step, he suggested an improvement in the condition of residents’ homes and ensures that children get worm medicine every six months.
“Do not again then arise children, now now 1 kg of worms, some time later 2 kg of worms. Do not let it be like that. Never mind, the victims do not appear again,” he said.
