BPBD set the status of extreme weather standby in 38 East Java regions

East Java BPBD Associate Expert Disaster Management Sriyono said the determination of this standby status following the predictions of the Juanda Climatology and Geophysics Meteorology Agency (BMKG) which said that extreme weather would hit the 22 regions in East Java.
“From the East Java Province BPBD followed up with all the Heads of Regency/City BPBD to carry out standby. The name of the forecast can change, so that our readiness is not only 22 but 38 regencies/cities,” Sriyono said in Surabaya, Saturday (9/13).
Sriyono ensured that all preparatory preparations had been made.Various equipment and logistics have been distributed to the Regency/City BPBD.
The equipment such as tents, boats, and food needs.In addition, Sriyono stated that all district/city BPBDs including the province would be on standby for 24 hours.
“So that the preparation is mature, God willing, BPBD is ready 24 hours, including the province,” he said.
BMKG Juanda predicts extreme weather will occur in several regions of East Java.This can result in hydrometeorological disasters such as moderate rain, floods, flash floods, landslides, strong winds, tornadoes, and hail in the period this week until 17 September 2025.
At present, the East Java region is still in the dry season and it is estimated that in the next seven days there will be a potential increase in extreme weather which has a significant impact on community activities.
The phenomenon is caused by an atmospheric wave disorder such as Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), Rossby waves, and low frequency atmospheric disorders that are currently in East Java.
As for several regions in East Java that are thought to be affected by hydrometeorology, namely, Bondowoso, Jember, Jombang, Kediri, Batu, Malang, Lumajang, Madiun, Mojokerto, Nganjuk, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Situbondo, Magetan, Ngawi, Ponorogo, Malang, Pacitan, Bojonegoro, Tuban, Banyuwangi, and Trenggalek.
Areas with steep/mountainous/cliff topography are expected to be more aware of the impacts that can be caused by extreme weather such as floods, flash floods, landslides, slippery roads, fallen trees and M reduced visibility.
