Minister
EMR
Bahlil Lahadalia
opens up the possibility of the government cutting some crude palm oil exports (
CPO
) to support the B50 biodiesel expansion program which will begin to be implemented in 2026.
This policy, he said, is still in the study stage and is an option to fulfill the need for biodiesel raw materials in the country.
“If there is an increase in the need for CPO, there are three concepts to meet it, land intensification, opening up new land, and cutting the portion that is exported,” said Bahlil when met at his office, Tuesday (14/10).

If the option to cut exports is carried out, a new DMO (domestic market obligation) policy will be created for the CPO sector.
“If the third alternative is used, then one option is to regulate domestic and foreign needs through DMO,” he added.
However, Bahlil emphasized that the DMO palm oil option is still a discourse and has not yet become an official government decision.
“Still an option,” he said simply.
He explained that the B50 implementation plan had been agreed upon in a limited cabinet meeting and was targeted to begin implementation in the second semester of 2026. This program is a continuation of the current implementation of B40.
“It was decided at yesterday’s meeting that we will convert from B40 to B50. If B50 is implemented, we will no longer import diesel,” said Bahlil.
According to him, currently Indonesia still imports around 4.9 million kilo liters of diesel per year.By implementing B50, imports can be reduced to zero, which at the same time strengthens national energy security and saves the country’s foreign exchange.
In addition, the increase in CPO demand for biodiesel is considered to have a multiplier effect on the regional plantation and industrial sectors.
“If we add CPO, there will automatically be the creation of new jobs. This is part of the economic trigger in the region,” he said.
