Ferry gave an example of several limiting rules including cooperatives not to have banks, cooperatives may not make Umrah and Hajj travel agencies, cooperatives cannot make hospitals.
“In fact, in the past, we had a bank. Bukopin was a bank that had a cooperative. Overseas, cooperatives have banks. For example, Rabo banks are also cooperatives,” he said.
Therefore, it will improve various regulations that limit the space for cooperative movement.Thus, cooperatives have the same opportunity and can catch up with SOEs and other private business entities.
According to Ferry, the resignation of the role of cooperatives could not be separated from the IMF rules when Indonesia owed to get out of the 1998 crisis. At that time, the international institution wanted the Indonesian economic system to be handed over to the free market.
“The market consists of large, medium, small market participants. Automatically if the state does not regulate, large market participants will nilt the small and dominating,” he said.
For this reason, the government is targeting the formation of 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives to ensure that economic justice is created in the community.
“With the establishment of 80 thousand village cooperatives, it is hoped that new business entities. The villages colored by poverty, backwardness, ignorance, then rife, loan sharks, online loans, this can be overcome. Then, growing jobs in the villages,” he said.
In addition, in order to help the development of cooperatives, the government prepares the Indonesian Data (SDI) program.
With the program, cooperatives have access to data integrated across sectors both population data, MSMEs, to regional potential.
The program will also help develop evidence-based policies (evidence-based policy), speed up the process of establishing cooperatives, and identifying the needs of cooperative members appropriately.
