Zara also admitted that there had been no rescue efforts from officers for residents who had taken refuge on the 2nd floor of shophouses or buildings in the area.
“There was no rescue, even through BPBD here, we asked for help for our friends who were trapped, no one wanted to help. Where is humanity? It’s useless to have help but it can’t help all of us here,” he said.
Government assistance has not been evenly distributed because of the cut off terrain. Many bridges in Aceh have broken down, leaving the area isolated.
As a solution, the government is trying to supply aid by air, one of which is by helicopter. However, in this way, aid cannot be distributed evenly and optimally.
This unequal distribution of aid means that residents in Bener Meriah and Central Aceh are forced to loot shops in order to survive.
