It was sentenced to three years in prison after being charged with embezzlement of funds of more than 4.3 billion won which is equivalent to Rp49 billion from his family’s agency.
In the hearing on Thursday (21/8), the Jeju District Prosecutor’s Office asked the court to sentence three years in prison because Hwang Jung-eum violated the law on serious sentences for certain economic crimes.
Hwang Jung-eum was accused of embezzling 4.34 billion won from his agency in early 2022, according to the indictment.Hwang Jung-eum is the only artist under the agency, who operates as a family business.
From the embezzled funds, around 4.2 billion won was invested in crypto currencies, while the rest was reported to be used to pay property taxes and local taxes through credit cards.
In his first trial on May 15, Hwang Jung-Eum acknowledged all the charges and requested that the trial be continued so that there was time to pay back the entire amount.

The court accepted the request.At that time, he had paid around 3 billion won.
Hwang Jung-eum then liquidated his personal assets and paid the rest in two installments on May 30 and June 5.Supporting documents have been submitted to the Jeju District Court.
The prosecutor said on Thursday that the request for the sentence “took into account the alleviation.”The verdict was scheduled in September 2025.
Hwang Jung-eum debut as a member of the K-Pop Sugar Girl Group in 2002. He later plunged into acting and since then became the main actor in a series of dramas, such as High Kick Through The Roof (2009-2010), She Was Pretty (2015), and Kill Me, Heal Me (2015).
