President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) Tony Wenas invited all parties to manage underground mines

Tony encouraged PT Freeport to be managed safe and sustainable.He emphasized that the PT Freeport mine must be managed down downstream and integrated.

On that occasion, Tony assessed that the meaning of the struggle for independence at this time was no longer on the battlefield, but in the field of development.According to him, the spirit of heroes must continue to live, even though the form of his struggle is different.
“More than 80 years ago, our heroes were persistent in fighting for independence. They sacrificed sweat, blood, and even lives for one noble goal, Indonesia’s independence,” said Tony.
He said the heroes and founders of the nation came from various tribes, religions, and backgrounds.However, they unite in their determination to gain independence.
He called Freeport Indonesia a portrait of Indonesian diversity.Employees come from various regions, religions, and backgrounds, but unite with one goal, namely working hard and contributing to the nation.
“Likewise with the Freeport Indonesian family. Various kinds of tribes from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote, are in our home in this Pura Copaga. But we have a different determination, namely filling independence not on the battlefield, but in the field of development,” said Tony.
Tony explained that Freeport Indonesia has contributed to the national economy.In 2024, Freeport had contributed to the state of Rp80 trillion which included taxes, royalties, profit sharing, dividends, to other payments.
Of that amount, Rp11 trillion has been received by the regions, especially Mimika Regency and Central Papua Province.
In addition, Freeport also poured Rp2 trillion social investment programs for the community around the mine.Since 2019, the amount of 4.1 billion US dollands has also been paid to the government through the Mind ID, the amount which is even greater than the cost of acquisition of PTFI shares by the government.
In his speech, Tony alluded to the important achievements of Freeport Indonesia in the downstreaming field.The world’s largest single single line smelter in Gresik has officially operated, including precious metal purification plant which has produced 11.5 tons of gold until July 2025. Freeport Indonesia also targets the production of 800 thousand tons of copper cathode per year, enough to support the manufacture of 8 million electric vehicles.
In addition to production achievements, Freeport Indonesia also carved social achievements and education.The Freeport scholarship has given birth to local figures, including the Governor and Deputy Regent in Papua.Tony closed his mandate with an invitation to continue to work hard, maintain safety, and contribute significantly to the nation.
