Malaysian sports lawyer, Nik Erman Nik Roseli, urged the Malaysian Football Association (
FAM
) shows strong evidence to refute FIFA’s accusations.
Currently, FAM has been sentenced to a fine of 350,000 Swiss francs or the equivalent of IDR 7.3 billion by FIFA for using fake documents in the naturalization process for seven players.
Meanwhile, the seven naturalized players involved in this case: Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel were fined 2,000 Swiss francs and banned from playing for 12 months.

In Nik Erman’s eyes, the FAM who submitted an appeal had a chance to win if they could show the original documents of the birth certificates of each player’s grandparents.
“One possible strategy is to ensure that the documents obtained by FIFA are fake,” said Nik Erman, quoted from
Metro
.
“The names in the documents obtained by FIFA are not the grandparents of the seven players. The documents obtained by FIFA are inaccurate or the records are inaccurate because they were obtained from unreliable sources,” added Nik Erman.
According to Nik Erman, FAM’s plans for appealing FIFA’s punishment are still unclear. However, Nik Erman reminded FAM of a number of things that are considered taboo when making an appeal.
“FAM can also avoid using the following reasons, such as the Department of National Registration (JPN) having granted citizenship. FIFA does not question citizenship or the process.”
“FIFA has no right to question this. However, the FIFA Statutes state the eligibility of players, one of whom is a grandfather/grandmother who was born in Malaysia,” said Nik Erman.
Nik Erman explained that the violations that occurred in the FAM case with FIFA were a matter of responsibility.
“FAM had no knowledge, no involvement, no intention. This violation does not require FAM to know, be involved, or intend. This is a ‘strict liability’ violation,” he said.
