Examination of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Customs detected radiation content in the shrimp container in August 2025.
Investigations continued into the country, search results brought a joint team to the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate, Serang Regency.At the place of used metal collection, positive materials were found containing CS-137.

The examination results ensure that the source of pollution comes from the scrap metal smelting activity at PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT), which operates in the industrial area.
Set a special radiation zone
Responding to that, the government established the Modern Industrial Estate Cikande, Serang Regency, Banten, as a special zone of Cesium-137 radiation (CS-137).
Coordinating Minister for Food Field Zulkifli Hasan said that this status was imposed in order to accelerate the decontamination steps after radioactive material was identified as a source of pollution that had previously caused the rejection of Indonesian shrimp products in the US.
“The task force ensured that the CS-137 contamination only occurred in Cikande, not in the national and export supply chains. Therefore, we today set Cikande as a special event for CS-137 radionuclide radiation so that we can accelerate quickly handling,” Zulhas said at a press conference at the Ministry of Food, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (30/9).
The government through the Cesium-137 handling task force also conducts an examination of PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT).
In addition to the company, as many as 15 used iron stall owners were also examined as part of the search for sources of CS-137 radiation contamination.

Special treatment to residents
The National Research and Innovation Agency together with the Ministry of Health will take special treatment for people exposed to Radioactive CS-137.Residents who are exposed to Radioactive CS-137 are given special vitamins and supplements to eliminate radioactive exposure while increasing endurance.

Then, the Ministry of Environment will also sue PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT) and PT Modern Cikande in a criminal and civil in the aftermath of this incident.
PT PMT is a material processing company containing CS-137, while PT Modern Cikande as the manager of the industrial estate.
The two companies were also held accountable to handle CS-137 contamination around the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate.
“The two parties that will be prosecuted by the first KLH are PMT as Defendant One, the second defendant is the manager of the PT Modern Land area,” said Minister of the Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, near the Cemaran location, Tuesday (30/9).
