The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) decided to freeze temporarily use
siren
and a rotator called the community as “TOT Tot Wuk Wuk” in escorting on the highway.
Polri Kakorlantas Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho said the freezing was carried out while his party evaluated the use of sirens and strobes during escort.
“We temporarily stop the use of the voices, while being evaluated thoroughly. Empowerment can still run, only for the use of sirens and strobe is evaluated. If it is not a priority, it should not be sounded,” Agus said through a written statement, Saturday (9/20).
Agus also emphasized that at this time the use of sirens should only be done in certain conditions that really require priority.
“Even if used, the siren is for special things, not haphazardly. While this is an appeal so that it is not used if it is not urgent,” he said.
Agus said, this evaluation step was taken as a form of response to the aspirations of people who were disturbed by the use of sirens and strobes.
Agus said that his party was currently also rearranging the rules for using sirens and rotators to prevent abuse.
This refers to Article 59 paragraph 5 of Law Number 22 Year 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ Law) which regulates anyone who has the right to use rotators and sirens:
Blue sign lights and sirens are used for motor vehicles for the Republic of Indonesia Police officers.
Red and sirens signals are used for detainee motorized vehicles, TNI escorts, firefighters, ambulances, red bars, rescue, and bodies.
Yellow signals without sirens are used for motorized toll road vehicles, supervision of LLAJ facilities and infrastructure, maintenance and cleaning of public facilities, vehicle drivers, and special goods transportation.
