Director General of Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Rilke Jeffri Huwae said the control of this permit became a proof of the government’s consistency in maintaining energy and mineral resources.
“In accordance with the direction of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, to realize good mining practices, we continue to strengthen supervision and action on illegal mining practices,” he said in a written statement, Monday (9/15).
From the results of the operation, the state managed to control 321.07 hectares of mining land.
The details, 148.25 hectares are areas of PT Weda Bay Nickel in North Maluku and 172.82 hectares that are owned by PT Tonia Mitra Sejahtera in Southeast Sulawesi.
“They have a mining permit, but they do not have a lending permit for forest use,” Jeffri explained, emphasizing the legal gap which eventually ensnared the two large companies.
According to Jeffri, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources continues to encourage the application of Good Mining Practices (GMP), the mining concept that focuses on environmental responsibility, sustainability, and legal compliance.
“The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will continue to collaborate and take part proactively in every planning and step of action with the Halilintar Forest Area (Task Force) Task Force,” he concluded.
