Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources
Bahlil Lahadalia
opens up the possibility that the government will ask for additional shares of PT
Freeport
Indonesia is more than 10 percent. This addition is up from before which was only 10 percent.
However, he was still reluctant to reveal what exactly number. What is clear is that he ensures that the value is more than 10 percent.
“Alhamdulillah, initially the addition of Freeport’s shares was 10 percent. The development that occurred above 10 percent. What exactly will I announce after the signature of the extension process,” Bahlil said after a limited meeting at the State Palace, Monday (9/15).
The government has now become the main shareholder of PT Freeport Indonesia with 51 percent share ownership. But with this additional plan for more than 10 percent, the minimum state shares in Freeport will be 61 percent.
According to Bahlil, the purchase of Freeport’s shares of more than 10 percent is not expensive.Because, the valuation of the assets is also not too big.
“For more than 10 percent, the cost is very cheap. Because the valuation of the assets we consider it that the value of the book is very thin,” he said.
Initially, the government only wanted to increase share ownership in Freeport by 10 percent which had been planned since the 7th President Joko Widodo’s administration.
Freeport-McMoran CEO Richard Adkerson has also come to Indonesia several times. Finally, he had talked with President Prabowo and the process of discussion of the acquisition of shares continued.
