Learning from the commotion against Lebanon to round four of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
The Indonesian national team was detained by Lebanon 0-0 in the second match of FIFA Matchday September at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), Surabaya, Monday (8/9).
The match was colored by a commotion between players from both teams, especially at the end of the match.As a result of the commotion Jay Idzes and Kevin Diks got a yellow card.
Despite failing to win, Patrick Kluivert gave appreciation to the Garuda squad for displaying attacking games throughout the game.
“First of all, I think overall throughout the match we dominate the game from left to right, front to the back. We have fantastic individual actions. There are several opportunities,” Kluivert said after the match.
“Unfortunately, we can’t score goals. But I am very proud of the team because I have implemented a new system and they adapt very well.”
The Dutch coach also alluded to the commotion in the Indonesian vs. Lebanon duel.In Kluivert’s eyes, the incident could be a lesson for the Red and White team against Iraq and Saudi Arabia.The reason is, Lebanese characters are not much different from Iraq and Arabic.
“I think everyone feels the same thing, I am also very satisfied with this situation. Unfortunately, there are incidents on the field and that can happen. But of course we must know that in the future things like this should not affect one match.”
“We must keep thinking coldly, but things like this do happen. As I said, we will learn. But we must be careful because the next match will be more fierce, so we must remain calm,” Kluivert said.
